Back in 2010 I had a blog named inthemudifoundthee. I remember how much I loved this ritual of putting together some notes and images and sharing something I noticed, few ideas, sort of a tiny lesson from daily experiences.
Then I got lost somewhere on the fast pace of images, likes, sharing on social media switching among 3(+1) accounts (a personal one, one for my circus performance-because-don’t ask-, one for my art on clothing and design services-> I used to have a separate one!).
It’s been a while that I have been thinking about starting this ritual again, in order to give some meaningful context to the photos I take, the drawings I create and to share some thoughts about this 15 years old trip on my work and development.
Diving in right away: On January 2025 in order to prepare it for a gift, I framed for the first time a large scale abstract painting of mine. It’s so strange to put behind glass an artwork and being ready to send it on its trip.
Abstract painting for me at this point is: “listening” to the materials (ink, gouache), following the rhythm of the medium (brush & painting roll in this case) and understanding the receiver, the canvas (paper in this case) and establish a discussion among them.
Drawing for me is the most natural thing to do and even though I love figurative painting and I use it in my work as an illustrator, I didn’t know how much I had missed the “zone” and flow of abstract painting. In this case, drawing becomes a sort of dancing and choreography for the whole body.

I enjoyed so much the process of discussing on how it will look better. There was some textures that I wanted them to be visible and the paper was wavy because of the gouache and some extra water I used to experiment.

Coming up more news and stuff in English and some of them in Greek!
Thank you,
Maria
